Notice of automatic extension of stay for foreigners stranded due to COVID-19

Viet Nam's Immigration Department has issued an automatic stay extension notice for foreigners stranded in Viet Nam due to COVID-19.

1. Foreigners who entered Viet Nam with visa waiver, electronic visas or tourist visas from March 1, 2020 are entitled to an automatic extension of stay until July 31, 2021 and may leave Viet Nam without have to request an extension of stay.

For those who entered Viet Nam before March 1, 2020, the same automatic extension of stay until July 31, 2021 may be considered, subject to providing proof that the person was stranded in Viet Nam due to COVID-19. , accompanied by a diplomatic note. (with Vietnamese translation) from the relevant diplomatic missions, or a written document from the relevant Vietnamese authorities confirming that the person was to undergo quarantine or compulsory treatment for Covid-19, or notice of other force majeure. The person is required to present the diplomatic note or a written document when leaving Vietnam.

2. During the period of "automatic extension of stay", foreigners are required to complete a declaration of temporary residence and state of health.

3. Foreigners who are not subject to paragraph 1 or who violate Vietnamese laws will be treated in accordance with the applicable laws of Viet Nam./.
