Political consultations at the level of Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vietnam-Algeria

Vice-Minister Pham Quang Hieu and Secretary General Chakib Rachid Kaïd expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria in recent years.

On May 27, in Hanoi, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Pham Quang Hieu and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Algerian Community Abroad, Mr. Chakib Rachid Kaïd co-chaired the 3rd meeting of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Algerian Community Abroad.

Vice-Minister Pham Quang Hieu highly appreciated the first visit of Secretary General Chakib Rachid Kaïd to Vietnam, underlining the importance of this visit in the context where the two countries are celebrating 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Algeria (October 28, 1962-October 28, 2022).

In an atmosphere of trust and sincerity, the Vietnamese Vice Minister and the Algerian Secretary General expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria in recent years. Although the two countries have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, they have maintained their exchanges and meetings through Party and state channels; economic cooperation, including bilateral trade, has gradually been restored.

The two sides agreed on measures to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in line with the good political relations and the great potentials of the two countries, including increasing delegation exchanges at all levels, emphasizing the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation, investments, culture, sport and local cooperation…...; at the same time, the two sides reviewed and updated the status of a number of bilateral cooperation documents.

Mr. Chakib Rachid Kaïd spoke highly of Vietnam's role in ASEAN and congratulated Vietnam on successfully assuming the term of non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council 2020-2021.

Vice Minister Pham Quang Hieu and Secretary General Chakib Rachid Kaïd agreed that Vietnam and Algeria should continue to cooperate closely, actively support each other in international organizations and contribute to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and in the world, protecting the common interests of developing countries.

After the session of political consultations, they attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Diplomatic Institute and International Relations of Algeria and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
